Kuwait's iconic venue, the Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club in Salmiya, played host to the prestigious 2023 IBF World Bowling Championships this year. The Women's Doubles category was a spectacle of talent, strategy, and precision, seeing top players from around the globe go head-to-head for the coveted title.

Semi-Finals Showdown: Women's Doubles

From the stunning lanes of Kuwait, the Women's Doubles semi-finals showcased some of the best talent in the International Bowling Federation circuit. Leading the pack were Mika Glud Guldbaek and Mai Ginge Jensen  from Denmark. They came face-to-face with Singapore's dynamic duo, Daphne Tan and Cherie Tan. The Singaporean pair showcased their prowess with scores of 218 and 193, besting the Danish team who managed 205 and 166, respectively. 

On the adjacent lanes, Grace Gella and Krizziah Macatula of the Philippines were locked in a fierce battle with another formidable team from Singapore, Colleen Pee and New Hui Fen. The latter showed no mercy, securing victories with scores of 236 and 250 against the Philippine's 149 and 182.

The Grand Finals

The championship round was an all-Singaporean affair, pitting Daphne Tan and Cherie Tan against compatriots Colleen Pee and New Hui Fen. The Tan duo, already in high spirits from their semi-final win, continued their streak. They claimed the first match 226-199. Their momentum seemed unstoppable as they clinched the gold with a 218-192 win in the second match, proudly placing Singapore on top of the Bowling World Cup 2023 podium.

Behind The Scenes

It's worth noting the rigorous journey these teams undertook to reach the semi-finals. Guldbaek and Jensen showcased sheer dominance in their group, clinching 15 points by winning all their matches. On the other hand, Gella and Macatula had to overcome a tie against fellow Singaporean teammates, Charmaine Chang and Shayna Ng. 

Similarly, both Pee-New and the Tan siblings faced tie-breakers in the earlier rounds, emphasizing the level of competition and the slim margins separating the best from the rest.
